Degree-Seeking Students

These are students who enrol in full-time programmes and are awarded degrees on completion of their studies by the University of Cape Coast. The University attracts students from all over Africa and other parts of the world.

Students at the University have access to many resources including access to Wi-Fi hotspots all over campus, an ultra-modern library complex with a capacity of stocking 750,000 volumes, a well-resourced hospital, an ICT Centre, expansive counselling system, sports facilities, banking services, restaurants, and many more.

How to Apply

UNDERGRADUATE

The minimum admission requirement into the University of Cape Coast for WASSCE applicants is aggregate 36.

  1. Candidates must have credit passes in six (6) subjects with an overall aggregate of 36/24 at the WASSCE/SSSCE respectively. Three of the six subjects must be core subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Integrated Science or Social Studies and three must be in relevant electives. For purposes of admission, a credit pass in: WASSCE means A1 – C6, SSSCE means A – D
  2. Holders of the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level (obtained not more than three years ago) must, in addition to credit passes in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects (including English and Mathematics), have, at least, two (2) passes in the relevant subjects.
  3. Applicants with the General Business Certificate Examination (GBCE) results should have credit passes (A-D) in six (6) subjects comprising three (3) core subjects including English Language and Mathematics plus three (3) relevant elective subjects.
  4. Holders of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)/ International Baccalaureate (IB) must possess at least Grades A*/A-C in English, Mathematics and Biology at the Standard (SL)/’O’ Level, in addition to three Higher Level (HL – A to C)/’A’ Level (A to D)/IB 2 (A to C) grades in the relevant subjects.
  5. Applicants are required to read specific Departmental/programme requirements contained in the Admissions Brochure before completing the online application.

  • On completion of the application form, send it through email to cie@ucc.edu.gh along with the following documents:
    1. A digital passport-sized photograph.
    2. A scanned copy of passport bio-data page.
    3. Results from Senior High School equivalent.
      • Applicants with W.A.S.S.C.E results have to add result checker information.
      • Results in a language that is not English will have to be translated and certified to be accepted.

UNDERGRADUATE APPLICATION FORM

POST-GRADUATE

Requirements for Masters Degree Programmes – 15 months

Candidates seeking admission to an MA/MEd/MSc/MBA degree programme must:

  1. Have obtained a good first degree (at least a second class) in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university/analogous institution.
  2. Submit an official transcript of academic record.
  3. Submit at least two reference reports, one of which must be from a former lecturer.
  4. Pass a selection interview.
  5. Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the College/Faculties/School/ Department.

Requirements for Master of Philosophy Programmes – 24 months (2 years)

Candidates seeking admission to MPhil/MCom/MN degree programmes must:

  1. Have obtained a good first degree (at least a second class) in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university/analogous institution.
  2. Submit an official transcript of academic record.
  3. Submit at least two reference reports, one of which must be from a former lecturer.
  4. Submit a 2-3 page proposal on intended area of study including references.
  5. Pass a selection interview.
  6. Satisfy any additional requirements prescribed by the College/Faculty/School/Department (e.g. selection interview)

Requirements for Doctor of Philosophy Programmes – 36 months (3 years)

Candidates seeking admission to PhD programmes must:

  1. Have an MPhil or research MA/MEd/MSc/MBA degree in an appropriate field of study from a recognised university. OR
  2. Have MA/Med/MSc/MBA degree in an appropriate field, with CGPA of 3.5 or better with not more than grade C+. Also, have scored B+ or better in Research Methods course. AND
  3. Submit an official transcript of academic record.
  4. Submit at least three referee reports, one of whom must be from a former Lecturer.
  5. Submit a 3-5 page proposal on intended area of study including a working bibliography.
  6. Satisfy any additional requirements.

Academics

At the University of Cape Coast, we focus on serving the needs of students, nurturing and challenging them to grow socially, physically, morally and intellectually.

The University offers over 200 academic programmes under five (5) Colleges and seventeen (17) Faculties/Schools. It provides modern facilities such as the well-stocked and renowned Sam Jonah LibraryDepartmental Libraries, Reading Rooms in all the traditional halls of residences, and lecture theatres. The University also employs accomplished lecturers.

FEES

Please note that tuition fees vary from programme to programme and are reviewed every academic year. Contact cie@ucc.edu.gh for the current fees

The estimates for living expenses are:

HOUSING $800 - 1200 per year
BOOKS An average of $300 per semester
FOOD An average of $500 per semester, note that it is cheaper to cook
TRANSPORTATION An average of $100 per semester

HOUSING

All freshly admitted undergraduate students are provided accommodation on campus.

Accommodation is only provided to first-year students and continuing students would be assisted in securing decent accommodation at private hostels in and around campus.

 

VISAS

As an international student, your visa is a permit to enter the country at any time during the period it was issued for. On entry into the country, you will be given a number of days at the point of entry to stay, usually 60-90 days. 

You are required by law to extend your permit to stay in the country for an extended period of time after that.

The Ghana Immigration Service has an office that works with the Office to assist students with this.

Location

The University is situated in the historical town of Cape Coast, the citadel of education in Ghana. Cape Coast (‘Oguaa’ in the local Fanti dialect) was the first capital of the former Gold Coast, now Ghana, until it was moved to Accra in 1877. It is the capital of the Central Region of Ghana and situated along the Atlantic ocean. Cape Coast is the cradle of education in Ghana as it houses some of the oldest and best-performing schools in the country.

The Chiefs and people of Cape Coast celebrate Fetu Afahye, an annual festival, every first week of September, and it is one of the popular tourist attractions in the country. With its rich history and monuments, Cape Coast is a tourist destination with numerous beaches and resorts.  It is an amazing experience to visit the Kakum National Rainforest with its famous Canopy Walkway and World Heritage sites such as Cape Coast and Elmina Slave Castles.
